ANCESTOR SPIRIT

ANCESTOR SPIRIT

By Sofia Jaquez

Born into a life I could not choose
when would I be given the news
that I would be given such a special mission in this life a chance to build and a chance to fight

not only for myself but for
my family my community my ancestry

as I imagine my ancestors to be as proud Warriors

with a liberated spirit that once was free
free to just be
but there came a point where their freedom was taken away but it shall not stay that way

for the truth shall always rise to the surface
and it will create movements and invite new purpose

to the descendants of those once liberated ancestors whose Freedom was unlawfully taken

a generation of children who are ready to stand
a generation of children who will Who will one day take back the right to our land

So as I sit back and think of this world my daughter would grow to see
And thinking about who I wanted to be

I realize I see much hate
And I think, would God have wanted me to keep that trait?

...for the truth shall always rise to the surface and it will create movements and invite new purpose...

No. I think not, he would want me to try and be righteous And show my little girl
So all her days she’d spread that kindness
Like a virus

You see
People walk around with their eyes on their phone Avoiding any contact with human kind
Acting like they’re all alone

No you’re not please realize with me now Everyone has stories
You let in what you allow

So take the time to smile at the people who come across your way
Cause we need more love in this world of hate

It is our job to protect and help all humans Cause we’re all the same

Why does life feel such like a game
As if we were manipulated to choose to hate

Segregated by borders, religion and race

Our connections are lost cause society tells us to be afraid of each other
But we gotta fight that and start saving one another

Instead,

Cause what’s important is human life

The freedom to love and choose not to fight

It starts with me and it starts with you..

So what will you do

Our connections are lost cause society tells us to be afraid of each other.
