SOY GUERRERA

By Guadalupe Pérez

My name is Guadalupe Perez, I am a daughter, I am a sister, I am a mother, I am a wife, I am a leader of the people, I am indigenous, I am an immigrant I am a co-founder of De Colores C Consulting I am part of the campaign "Warriors against Covid-19", I am warrior, I am an essential front-line worker during this time of pandemic. I have had to live, see and hear a lot from my immigrant people of color in my community.

I am warrior, I am an essential front-line worker during this time of pandemic.

I have seen relatives who have left, because they could not survive the effects of Covid-19. I have listened to many of my people when I reach out to the pain of loved ones who lost here in the USA and in their hometown. I have listened throughout all this 2020-2021 the fear of contagion of the virus, the stress that isolation has caused by not being able to gather and embrace our loved ones for not having what is necessary to pay their rent, their utilities and having enough food to give to their families. Not having the monetary support of government entities, which should be a right and not a privilege, to access this economic support. I am sure that we can all identify with all these experiences, but here comes the good news.

...the stress that isolation has caused by not being able to gather and embrace our loved ones...

Even with all these experiences I have heard the support that they give each other, "I took food to my neighbor who was infected", "I am passing the resources that the warriors give us in the community”, “I am taking food to my mother at the door ”...it is impossible to listen to these words without feelings HOPE. Through these words, I realize that love, service and the desire to help others shows us the generous heart that our people have. Covid-19 has changed our lives, the way we conduct ourselves and the way we protect ourselves, but it will never change how RESILIENT and how we stand in SOLIDARITY with one another in these difficult times with whatever comes.

I realize that love, service and the desire to help others shows us the generous heart that our people have.

Our community is waiting for the VACCINE to go and put a light on at the end of the tunnel, it gives me HOPE to know that we will all be able to immunize ourselves starting on April 15, 2021 to be able to return to normality, to hug our loved ones, to be able to be together and celebrate life, to be able to go out to work safe knowing that we are protected and safe, go out to the parks to play with our families, with neighbors, with co-workers and not limit ourselves to enjoying this world, our surroundings. We follow this fight path and continue dreaming and building a world where many worlds fit.

This work that us WARRIORS do through the collective gives me hope if we can support each other between organizations to support our community that is affected by economic and social inequality, we warriors stand to bring accompaniment, support, resources and hope to move forward together hand in hand always forward as my grandmother said, rest in peace. “Pa tras ni par coger impulso”

We follow this fight path and continue dreaming and building a world where many worlds fit.
