ALBUM RELEASE: BACK IN THE DAY ESSJ

By Ivan Flores

The latest release from Discos Resaca as we introduce the new label “Oriente Records” is a 14 song tribute to East Side San José. With a stacked lineup that brings together living legends and musicians from younger generations touching on genres from Oldies, Latin/Chicano Soul, Freestyle, Cumbias, Quebraditas, and Baladas.

...a 14 song tribute to East Side San José.

In response to the 1972 Clifford Coulter Album of the same name, this album intends to provide a musical snapshot of a life experience in East San José that takes us back to the 1980s and 90s. Paying homage to the many communities and cultural movements of that era and in solidarity with the folks who have been fighting against environmental inequities, ‘safest city’ initiatives, eminent domain and the many attempts to erase the history and culture of ESSJ. It’s a love letter to the neighborhood I and many others grew up in. A humble attempt to document the last generation before the tech-driven gentrification, developer fueled land grabs.
