Estella has worked for the San José Public Library (SJPL) for over 17 years at many of the different branches and departments within the library system, serving the many different communities in San José. Currently, she works as a library clerk at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library’s California Room (the library’s archives of state and local history). In December 2018, Estella organized and curated the library’s major exhibit- “Story and King: San José’s Lowrider Culture”- that ran until March 2019. The exhibit put a spotlight on San José’s history with the lowrider community, as well as the history of Lowrider magazine. Through the exhibit, Estella realized how important it is to fill in history gaps, which have gone undocumented but have important historical relevance to the community.

Her goal is to help build the California Room collections to be more inclusive and representative of the history of minority communities. Currently, Estella is working on gathering materials in preparation for an exhibition that will put the spotlight on San José’s East Side’s social, economic, and political development, for the purpose of establishing a permanent East Side archival collection for the California Room."
