REMEMBRANCE

REMEMBRANCE

By Keana Aguila-Labra

On Trans Day of Remembrance For Natalie After Hala Alyan

I brushed against the hand of god, walking with her towards MOM at the turn of summer.

In the here and then, we light candles for her and her siblings, a pantheon dipped in wax.

She, a god, a goddess, cannot stay. So she does not stay long enough to learn I am one of them.

We raise our arms in prayer, creating with united hums the sun We pray through time, Smiling across the overlap, where time and space is a venn diagram of love and regret.

But there is rest in the beyond, in an ascendance. There she is at peace.

There,

She is free, She is free, She is

Free.
